In Syracuse City School District , we were pleased to know that Iglesia provided over 5,300 hours of tutoring to SCSD students this first year! Additionally, 65% of students registered with Iglesia attended 80% or more of the tutoring sessions available to them, and a number of these students received additional tutoring services beyond their allotted hours.
In North Syracuse Central School District, 97% of the students registered for the Iglesia summer academic camp participated in this fist-year camp! Additionally, the average attendance for the academic camp was 76%, and many students had an attendance rate above 90%.
During the 2010-2011 school year, Iglesia opened in Utica, and is expanding into Auburn, to further provide tutoring and academic enrichment to students across New York State. Future expansion considerations include Albany and Liverpool areas as well.
Iglesia Pre-Engineering Summer Academy – 2010
September 8, 2010
The Iglesia Pre-Engineering Summer Academy was a resounding success for the students, staff and program partners! This was the third consecutive year that Iglesia Educational Centers partnered with the Rochester City School District to provide the academy program to students.
The academy provides unique opportunities for students to learn about a variety of engineering fields with other students, teachers, professors and professionals. Students were actively engaged in hands-on engineering activities including Cardboard Chairs, Roller Coaster Madness, Shoe Design and Diaper Doozey, among others.
Students also participated in a University of Rochester campus visit where they met with University representatives and a college student panel, and became familiar with the campus. Student accomplishments were celebrated at a picnic held at the conclusion of the program.
We had a terrific group of students from Rochester City School District schools including: School of the Arts, Jefferson, Franklin schools, Wilson Foundation, East, #6, #12, #28 and #45. Sixty Rochester City School District students participated in the academy, and the average daily attendance was 90%. Students were given breakfast and lunch daily provided by the RCSD.
Summer of Opportunity Program – 2010

The Iglesia Summer of Opportunity six-week program spotlights the engineering field, career and college exploration, achieving success, and being an engaged community member. Unique opportunities are provided for students to learn about a variety of employment fields, gain work experience, and cultivate habits and skills imperative to academic and professional success.
This is the third year that Iglesia Educational Centers has been funded by the City of Rochester to provide this exciting program to area students. Twenty-eight area students participated in a variety of activities including community work assignments, college campus visits, leadership and financial literacy workshops, a museum trip, and engineering projects.
This year’s student group had the exclusive opportunity to meet two esteemed judges
from the Rochester area: Judge Charles J. Siragusa, U.S. District Court judge for the Western District of New York in Rochester; and Judge Stephen Miller, Rochester City Court judge. Judge Siragusa hosted students at the United States Courthouse in the Keating Federal Building downtown. He spoke with the students about various elements of the legal system and pursuing a career in Law. Judge Miller graciously came to the Iglesia Thurston Road tutoring center, and spoke with students about topics including the responsibilities of youth in a lawful society, as well as courtroom etiquette and procedures.
Students also visited the University of Rochester’s medical center and the River Campus. Mr. Modie Cox of the Winning Because I Tried organization conducted a spirited leadership workshop. The program concluded with an awards ceremony with students, parents and other community stakeholders.
